Phil Hanley started standup comedy by performing at open mics around Vancouver, often in-between bands at music venues. In these establishments, he discovered and honed his unique blend of material and crowd interaction that makes no two performances the same. Phil's style can best be described as unpredictably personal, delivered with sharp accuracy, and rooted in the grand tradition of joke telling. A first performance at Montreal's Just For Laughs Festival in 2008 brought him international acclaim. His jokes were recognized in the Montreal Gazette's annual "Best Jokes of the Festival. He was also named one of "The Five Comics Creating a Buzz" by the Hollywood Reporter, and rewarded with a featured segment on the "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno. After recording his own nationally televised special on The Comedy Network, he relocated to New York City.
Since arriving in the States, Phil has appeared twice on the “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson”, and was a finalist in the New York Funniest Comic Competition. After returning to Just for Laughs for a second time in 2012, he continued to garner the entertainment industry’s attention. He was selected by Comedy Central for the “Comics to Watch Showcase” as part of the New York comedy festival, and appeared on Buzzfeed's list of “10 Hilarous comics you've (probably) never heard of". Phil, who also has multiple screenwriting credits, can currently be seen in a Microsoft commercial alongside Samantha Bee and Jason Jones of "The Daily Show".
