Captivate Through Comedy 101

Stand-Up Class Overview

The best TED Talks are funny. The most successful business speakers are funny. The people who make employers laugh get hired. Whether you want to overcome stage fright, advance your career outside of comedy or start a new career as a comedian, this course’s emphasis on writing, preparation, and performance will help you get there.

The course is taught by Jesse Fernandez, a 14-year stand-up comedy veteran who regularly performs at all the major Bay Area clubs, has been featured in 10 SF Sketchfests, presented research at The International Society For Humor Studies Conference, and won the Speechless improvised PowerPoint competition as well as the National College Comedy Competition. Among the countless people he’s opened for are Maria Bamford (from Netflix’s Lady Dynamite), Andy Kindler (judge on NBC’s Last Comic Standing), Mary Lynn Rajskub (from Fox’s 24), and even Steve-O (you know what he’s from). He’s written in the funniest parts of certain TED Talks, Starbucks, MSN, ABC, eBaum’s World (yes, they’re still around), famous comedians, and many more.

Admission to this course entitles you to FREE admission to the Punch Line’s SF Comedy Showcase on each of the 5 Sundays when class sessions and the graduation show take place. At these showcases, you’ll get to study the best comedy talent in the Bay Area as they perform their acts.
